In Australia most children attend primary school from the age of
five. Only two percent of children of primary school age are
educated at home. Some children who go to school also take up

dancing, and they go to private classes for these and for school
subjects they find difficult or particularly interesting. Ninety
percent of the population go on to secondary school, but a much
smaller percentage pass the final year of secendary school
examinations and complete a university degree. Australian
universities are modern and well equipped. Most teaching is by a
combination of lectures, tutorals and practical classes. The
humanities course like history and philosophy, usually involve a lot
of extra reading in the library. To become a primary or secondary
school teacher, it is usually necessary to study at university for
